Climbing Mount Rinjani 3D/2N
Day 1 : Hotel – Sembalun – Pelawangan II
Drive down early morning to Sembalun Lawang for registration at Rinjani Trekking Information Center. Then we arrange National Park entry tickets. Your trekking guide briefs you the route details, rubbish management, and safety procedures. In addition, he will also explains local tradition; and what you might see during the trek in the forest.
We set out on climbing mount Rinjani from Sembalun Lawang with the gentle ascent walking through open grassland used as cattle grazing by local people. We take a rest a few minutes at post 1 Pemantauan. Afterwards we go on walking for about three hours to reach post 2 Tengengean to enjoy the beautiful views of Mount Rinjani summit (3,726 m). Furthermore we trek up to post 3 Pada Balong. At last, we climb amidst the pine-like Casuarinas species locally known as Cemara. We could possibly look at wild pigs and the long-tailed grey macaque monkeys around the camp site at Plawangan II Sembalun crater rim.
Day 2 : Pelawangan II – Summit – Lake
since we are going to climb up the peak, we are suggested to start at 03:00 AM. Once we come to the peak we will feel very proud and satisfied as we can reach it. We enjoy an amazing sunrise views across the Wallace Line to Bali, Mount. Agung and Sumbawa island. After having breakfast we descend to the lake Segara Anak. Within the Rinjani crater we will see Mount. Baru Jari, an island in the middle of the lake and an active volcano. The last dramatic eruption is in 1994.
We return down the ridge passing numerous edelweiss plants Bunga Abadi to the crater rim camp for breakfast. Then we walk down to the lake taking two to three hours through a very steep trail. We swim in the lake or explore the caves and pilgrimage hot springs. The people believed that it is has a healing power. After having lunch we leave the lake and trek up for 2.5 hours to Plawangan 1 senaru Crater Rim for the second days camp. If the weather is good we will have dinner and overnight by the crater rim or another hour down to Cemara Lima.
Day 3 : Lake – Senaru – Hotel
After breakfast, descend down the long trail to Senaru village through thick tropical forests which is rich in flora and fauna. We might see orchid, bird life, and a variety of butterflies. If we are lucky we could see also the rare black ebony leaf monkey, known locally as lutung. Rest stops are taken along the way. After seven hours walking from the rim, or five hours from Pos 3 Mondokon Lolak, Climbing Mount Rinjani ends at Rinjani Trekking Center at the road head in Senaru. Furthermore, we drive back to hotel for relax and take a rest.
